Memento Mori. Sumi ink on Yupo paper
This series is influenced from the Santa Maria della Concezione dei Cappuccni, a Capuchin Crypt, a bone chapel in Rome, Italy. There you will find a series of bone chapels with an ancient inscription: “Quello che voi siete noi eravamo, quello che noi siamo voi sarete’’ (What you are now, we once were, what we are now, you will become).
Although this body of work was inspired by the crypt, it is still primarily a search for a painting or a drawing through the process of mark-making and abstraction. It is less about the image and more about witnessing the history of the encounter within the creation of each piece.
